An abnormality in the cells of a tissue or organ. Dysplasia can be mild, moderate, or severe and is often described in a pathology report as low grade or high grade. Low grade dysplasia is mild abnormal changes whereas high grade is severe showing a higher number of abnormal cells and is considered an advanced precancer. Dysplasia can change over time, even regressing from high to low grade.
