Also known as an ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA), a reservoir created from the distal small intestine that is joined to the anal canal. In standard J-pouch procedures, the rectal cuff is preserved and the J-pouch is sewn to it. Sometimes this may also be called an S-pouch or W-pouch depending on how the reservoir is created.
